Department Overview
The Documentation Team within the Motorola Solutions Worldwide Education organization is responsible for delivering comprehensive product documentation portfolios to customers, partners, and employees.
Job Description
The Documentation Product Owner is responsible for managing, planning, and designing global documentation projects. The Product Owner ensures the completion of the development work assigned to the development teams, as well as to manage and design the tasks to be performed in the documentation portfolio. This includes responsibility for the quality of deliverables, completion of the team’s deliverables and raising the necessary risk and issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key project stakeholders
- Define project scope with the Product Teams
- Work closely with Product Management to create and maintain a product backlog
- Plan and prioritize product feature backlog and development for the product based on needs
- Work with the Translations team to cost projects and define scope
- Determine the resources required to complete the project based on project costing
- Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of releases
- Maintain continual communication with key project stakeholders, on project status, risks and issues
- Re-prioritize product backlog based on changing product needs
- Participate in quality reviews of assignments to ensure they are at an acceptable quality level, as well as having complied with the appropriate development process
- Design new documents and support their development to deliver high quality customer documentation which adds value to our cutting-edge wireless communications Motorola Solutions technology
- Conduct continuous research on new documentation modalities and delivery methods, focusing on customer interaction and content customization, to enhance user experience with our products.
- Identify and drive quality improvements of the documents within your portfolio
- Act as a bridge between software development and the documentation team by sharing your technical expertise, ensuring that documentation requirements are met, and represent the team outside the organization
- Review content created by the documentation team in terms of structure, technical and linguistic correctness, as well as overall user experience
- Collaborate with the Media and Operations teams to improve the graphical and functional design of your portfolio
- Cooperate with software, business, and management representatives to identify customer documentation needs and prioritize content development
- Gather requirements for new documentation projects through reading technical material on the features, interviewing Subject Matter Experts and audience members, reviewing historic audience data, and participating in Engineering planning sessions
- Prepare documentation development effort estimates for the purpose of resource assignment
- Manage an entire documentation portfolio by supervising the documentation publishing process and providing process guidelines to the documentation team
- Ensure the proper deployment and publication of the planned deliverables in a timely manner
- Facilitating Agile/Scrum meetings and ceremonies
- Keep track of project scope changes and estimate their impact on the project deliverables
- Decide on the XML metadata strategy
- Providing product expertise to the Instructional Designers and Content Developers on the Training sister team
Requirements:
- Background in Technical Writing, Project Management, or Product Ownership
- Basic understanding of the DITA format
- Understanding of Google Apps for Work
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
- Ability to coordinate and complete projects with minimal supervision
- Strong team player, able to work in a faced and rapidly changing environment
