Hitachi Energy Research are looking for a Researcher with expertise in the area of Human-Automation Interaction. You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

Your responsibilities
  • Propose, contribute to and lead research and development projects on user interactions with advanced automation systems for the next generations of products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields.
  • Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy to design solutions for the users and operators of a highly automated power system.
  • Based on documentation, interviews, and observations describe and define current status and future desired processes and workflows for complex human-automation interaction scenarios. Engage with domain experts to define, anticipate and intuitively communicate the roles and interactions between various stakeholders, operations and automation systems.
  • Understand and engineer on-line human learning workflows via interaction design, prototyping and implementation.
  • Collaborate with AI and automation researchers in the design of user-friendly algorithms through clarifying and communicating high-level requirements, design of experiments, data collection and analysis.
  • Evaluate prototypes of new automation solutions with humans-in-the-loop.
  • Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors.
  • Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
Your background
  • Strong academic qualification with an internationally recognized degree at masters level or doctorate level in Computer Science, Information Studies, Mathematics, Control and Automation, Human-Factors Engineering, Cognitive Ergonomics, Psychology, or any related field of study.
  • Ability to interact with end-users, researchers and developers from different disciplines in order to understand and further develop technical and business requirements and design user experiences accordingly.
  • Experience with workflow design, prototyping and implementation of work support tools.
  • Experience with experiment design, data collection and data analysis.
  • Ability to visualize ideas and concepts in an intuitive manner including functional visualization of information and algorithms.
  • Experience with communication design and ability to describe purpose, process and performance of automation in a clear way.
  • Experience that demonstrates your team-oriented, innovative, and strategic working styles.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • In addition the following skills would be beneficial for the role:
  • Experience working in the industrial technology sector, in particular with digital technologies and industrial automation.
  • Interest in and knowledge of automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies, including explainable artificial intelligence technologies.
  • Programming experience or understanding of computer systems.
  • Knowledge and interest in products and systems for power grids, green energy and related fields.
  • Experience applying data analytics methods such as process mining, intention mining, statistical hypothesis testing, etc.
